In this panel discussion, four experts will discuss the state of retail in New York City. Each panelist will provide their perspective on such topics as the current state of the retail market; how the NYC Department of City Planning is aiding retailers; how Union Square Partnership works with retailers in their catchment area; and what members of the retail brokerage community are seeing on the ground and in the data in terms of retail rentals. The panel will be moderated by Harvard University Professor Dr. Rachel Metlzer, who performs research on retail and land use in New York. Panelists will be:
Carolyn Grossman Meagher, who heads the Economic Development & Regional Planning Division within NYC’s Department of City Planning. In 2024, she led the team that wrote the report, “Storefront Activity in NYC Neighborhoods.”

Sally Burns is an Urban Planner for Union Square Partnership, and oversees their Biz & Broker reports.

Andie Miller is the Director of GIS for RIPCO Real Estate, a retail-focused commercial real estate firm.  She is responsible for overseeing the firm’s location intelligence strategy that supports leasing, investment sales, capital markets, and retail new market entry

Doug Kleinman joined RIPCO in 2012 and is an Executive Managing Director in RIPCO’s Manhattan office. He has successfully completed many retail transactions throughout New York City.
