The upcoming 2024, 14th Architecture, Culture, and Spirituality Symposium is set to unfold in the heart of Istanbul, Turkey on June 5. This venture marks the first time the symposium is being held outside North America, amplifying its international and interdisciplinary ethos. I am honored to share that our team is organizing this scholarly event themed “Resonance of the Past, Spirit of the Future: Exploring Transcendent Unity in a World of Multiplicity.” This initiative reflects diverse disciplinary insights not only from architecture, but also from fields such as historic preservation, art and architecture history, religion, landscape architecture, and sociology among others.

The symposium aims to foster a robust dialogue at the intersection of architecture, culture, and spirituality, while also navigating the transformative impact of digital technologies on the three components in both educational and professional spheres. We chose Istanbul as the venue, symbolizing a civilizational crossroads, that resonates with the dialogue between tradition and innovation. Besides engaging discussions, the symposium will also offer an excursion to some of Istanbul’s significant sacred sites and Turkish art workshops to show the country’s rich cultural tapestry.

We would like to encourage submissions from the AIA Community. The call for submissions includes papers, practice/research projects, or workshop ideas, with a submission deadline of January 15, 2024.

For further details regarding the symposium and submission guidelines, please visit the symposium website.
