New York School of Interior Design professional-level Master of Fine Arts in Interior Design (MFA1) students will present their research and design projects from last year's Interior Design Studio II focusing on Universal Design Principles and Accessibility in the residential environment. Projects range in scale from the design of a two-bedroom apartment to the design of a multi-room common living space in a co-housing residence for a retired and semi-retired community. The students will discuss how they considered all aspects of a residential space, including planning, products, materials, and finishes to appeal to the diverse needs of an aging, yet vital group of people and the community of friends and loved ones who will visit.

About the Speakers:
Laura Ferraris is a student in the MFA-I program at the New York School of Interior Design. Prior to pursuing a formal education in Interior Design, she received her bachelor’s degree in economics at Boston College. Halfway through her undergraduate career, the Covid-19 pandemic hit and gave Ferraris the opportunity to follow her passion and take a few design courses. Falling in love with the beauty of intentionally designing for the well-being of others, she decided to continue her education immediately after graduating from BC. Ferraris is mainly interested in designing for the hospitality industry, specifically hotels and restaurants. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, skiing, running, and trying new restaurants around the city!
Hadley Jones is a second year MFA-1 student at the New York School of Interior Design. She is originally from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and is a proud alumna of the University of Florida, where she studied Business Management and graduated with honors in 2022. Jones is a lifelong artist and chose to continue her education in interior design so that she could work towards a career that combines her passions for design and entrepreneurship. She is particularly interested in both boutique hotel and residential design and is excited to continue learning about these industries at NYSID. Outside of the studio, Jones enjoys exploring all that NYC has to offer and is an avid traveler, skier, and foodie.
Katie Phillips is a second year MFA-1 student at the New York School of Interior Design. She received a BA in History with a focus in secondary education from the University of Texas at Austin. She previously worked in Higher Education in Operations and Technology before attending NYSID. Her design interests include residential and hospitality design. Phillips loves the problem solving and critical thinking that comes with designing an intentional and beautiful space. Her hobbies include spending time with her husband and golden retriever, traveling, and cooking.
