Presented by Paul A. Castrucci Architects

Modular construction can be implemented in Passive House buildings to decrease construction time, control costs, increase quality, and decrease emissions and construction waste. Using two Passive House, modular construction, affordable housing case studies, Paul A. Castrucci Architects will outline critical benefits and constraints of this design approach.

Bethany Senior Terraces is a proposed, 58-unit, all-electric affordable housing building for seniors, slated to be certified to PHIUS+ 2018 and meet NYC’s new carbon emission regulations for 2050.

Habitat for Humanity’s Habitat Net-Zero is a scalable, affordable, prototype housing design for 10 small lots in Queens, NY. It is to achieve net-zero energy housing on small lots.

Through the lens of these two projects, Paul A. Castrucci Architects’ webinar will explore the following topics:

  • The key benefits of modular construction such as cost, schedule, and reduced life cycle carbon emission
  • Detailing and improved control for passive house and modular construction
  • Testing protocols
  • Integration of MEP for modular construction.

About NYPH:
New York Passive House (NYPH) was founded in 2010 by a group of professionals who found the need for an energy-efficient built environment. What started as an unofficial meetup of like-minded professionals has developed into a strong non-profit with members of diverse professional backgrounds. Today, NYPH leads the movement to promote the Passive House building energy standard in New York State and the New York City metropolitan area.
