Cocktails & Conversation is a series of dialogues about design that joins an architect with a critic, journalist, curator, or architectural historian to discuss current architecture design issues. This special program will have three Principals from Architecture Research Office share their favorite, home-crafted cocktails with Mark Lamster of the Dallas Morning News.

Bios

Stephen Cassell, FAIA is Principal of Architecture Research Office. He holds an undergraduate degree in architecture from Princeton University and received his Master of Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design. He is Adjunct Associate Professor at Columbia University, and has taught at Harvard University, Princeton University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and other institutions. He has lectured widely throughout the United States and abroad. Stephen is the former Chair of the Board of the Van Alen Institute. He was also on the New York City Green Codes Task Force and the Leadership Committee of the Lower Mississippi River Delta Design Initiative.

Kim Yao, AIA is Principal of Architecture Research Office. She holds an undergraduate degree in architecture from Columbia College: Columbia University and a Master of Architecture from Princeton University. She is Adjunct Assistant Professor of Architecture at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, and has taught at the School of Constructed Environments, Parsons the New School for Design, and Barnard College (2001-2011). She has lectured widely throughout the United States and abroad. She is on the Executive Committee and Board for AIA New York and the Center for Architecture as the 2020 President of AIA New York.

Adam Yarinsky, FAIA LEED AP, is Principal of Architecture Research Office. He holds an undergraduate degree in architecture from the University of Virginia and a Master of Architecture from Princeton University. He has taught at Harvard University, University of Michigan, Princeton University, Yale University, the University of Virginia and other institutions. He has lectured widely throughout the United States and abroad. His writing has appeared in A+U, The Architect’s Newspaper, 306090, Dimensions, Places Journal, and elsewhere. Adam served on the board of Places Journal from 2012-2018, and he is on the University of Virginia School of Architecture Advisory Board.

Mark Lamster is the architecture critic of the Dallas Morning News, a professor in the architecture school at the University of Texas at Arlington, and a Harvard Loeb Fellow. His acclaimed biography of the late architect Philip Johnson, The Man in the Glass House (Little Brown, 2018), was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award for Biography.
