The introduction of new materials, the innovative use of well-established facade components, the drive to control rising costs and improve quality, and the increase in globalization have led to changes in the appearance, performance and construction of façade systems. While it is clear that these approaches to design and construction can have significant value for the owner and end user, it is important that the impact changes are understood and managed so that the overall goals are achieved. Further, in some instances, industry guidance is in flux or unclear about how the challenges are to be addressed, leaving project teams in the dark.

This presentation will discuss current trends and the drivers behind these approaches, how these designs can affect the overall performance of the building enclosure systems, and how concerns associated with these popular, but less established, approaches are managed.

Speakers:
Columb Mahoney, AIA, Senior Associate, Woods Bagot
Matthew J. Normandeau, Senior Project Manager, Simpson Gumpertz & Heger, Inc.
