Center for Architecture 536 LaGuardia Place New York NY 10012
Elected officials have a great deal of influence over the makeup of public buildings and infrastructure in New York City. Every process of building a public project is shaped by our elected representatives: funding, political support, design, procurement, and construction. This program allows audience members to hear directly from both City and State elected officials about their experiences with the construction of public buildings. Speakers will discuss specific examples in their legislative districts, as well as general trends throughout the City on a variety of different public building and infrastructure typologies.
This will also be an opportunity to learn from elected officials about how they have interacted with architects in the past, and the role they hope architects will play in shaping the conversation around public buildings in coming years.
Speakers: Robert Cornegy, Council Member, Committee on Housing and Buildings Chair Liz Krueger, State Senator, Finance Committee Chair Mark Levine, Council Member, Committee on Health Chair
The related Mapping Community exhibition demystifies the complex process of capital planning in New York City by explaining the rules that govern the capital process for our city, the various city agencies that implement projects, and the ways everyday New Yorkers have a say in what types of investment they would like to see in their neighborhood
As a reminder, AIA National policy requires participants to attend the entire educational portion of an event to receive continuing education credits. We encourage all participants to arrive on time to comply with this policy.
