The Architecture for Justice Committee will be meeting at 6:00pm on February 20at the Center for Architecture (536 LaGuardia Place). We regularly meet on the third Monday of every month, but will meet on Tuesdays in January and February in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Presidents Day, respectively.
For the February meeting, we will have a presentation from Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) on the 40th Precinct in the Bronx as part of the evening’s agenda, which would be followed by a round table discussion about police stations and what would be key principles to incorporate into future station houses to address issues of spatial justice, fairness and equity.
New and old committee members are welcome to join us this month as we plan for upcoming events, presentations and discussion topics. Education and the exchange of ideas is a central part of our committee’s mission, and it is important to make sure we are including issues that you all think should be part of our committee’s conversations that have been an integral part of our monthly agendas, so please bring your requests and suggestions for future topics.
About our committee:
The members of our committee are active in the design and construction of public buildings that serve the justice system of our nation. We seek to improve the planning, design quality, operational performance, and cultural value of these major civic institutions.
Through seminars, conferences, exhibitions, building tours, and informal exchanges we hope to educate our committee members, allied colleagues, clients and the public at large about the issues that affect the design of justice facilities, and to inspire a high level of aspiration for the design quality of those buildings. We are dedicated to advancing our knowledge about the issues that affect the design of justice facilities,
Our focus is on courthouses, detention facilities, law enforcement facilities, and other justice system facilities.
