Created and presented by ASHRAE New York Chapter, this course explains the basic refrigeration principles to help architects and non-engineers better understand the basics of heat pumps, refrigerants, environmental legislation and their importance in electrifying buildings and setting them on a path towards decarbonization.

About the Speakers:

Maxwell L. Hatfield-Biondo’s HVAC design experience encompasses a wide range of projects, from commercial offices to museums, and he leads JB&B’s Higher Education Community of Practice. He enjoys educating others on HVAC design practices, serving as Dean of the HVAC College for JB&B University, the firm’s in-house technical and professional career development program that has gained industry-wide prestige. Hatfield-Biondo is an active member of the ASHRAE New York Chapter and Urban Green Council.

As a lead mechanical engineer and project manager, Matthew Brady delivers energy efficient solutions for the firm’s projects in the healthcare, aviation, and commercial sectors. Brady leads engineering design teams to achieve project sustainability goals by integrating energy efficient HVAC systems and electrification within architectural designs. Prior to working in consulting engineering, he served as a nuclear submarine officer in the United States Navy onboard the USS-Toledo.
