Embodied energy — the energy that goes into making a building — can be a bigger contributor to climate change than the energy it takes to operate the building. But too many institutions, including architecture schools, respected architecture firms, and environmental rating organizations, seem to believe embodied energy can be wished away. That’s a dangerous message to send at a time of climate crisis.
