What can a student chapter accomplish when students take an active role in shaping their education, community, and profession? This session highlights the possibilities of ISAPD student chapters and offers a look at how students can build meaningful programming, advocacy, and community within their own universities and communities.
ISAPD University of Arizona students will share the activities and initiatives of their chapter since its inception, highlighting how student-led efforts can create opportunities for learning, connection, cultural engagement, and professional growth. Additional students will share their studio work and share how their projects engage with Indigenous knowledge at the intersection of nature, culture, and history.
Together, these presentations demonstrate how a student chapter can be a platform for students to shape their academic experience, amplify Indigenous perspectives, and create opportunities for their peers and communities.
The session is designed to both educate and inspire students who are interested in starting their own ISAPD chapters at their universities, offering examples of what is possible and encouraging students to consider how they can build similar initiatives within their own schools.

About the Speakers:
Laura Carr is a senior lecturer in the University of Arizona School of Architecture teaching in both studio and lectures courses in the areas of sustainable design, culturally responsive design, community outreach, building technologies and professional practice. She currently serves as chair of the school’s Practice Stream, a member of the Drachman Institute Faculty Executive Board, is a Deans Equity and Inclusion Initiative (DEII) Fellow and is a founding member of the Native Peoples Design Coalition (NPDC), UArizona partnership working with Tribal communities to plan and design the built environment for sustainability and resiliency.
