This extended 3.25-hour AIA New York tour travels to Staten Island and offers a limited "backstage pass" to experience the transformation of the region's former solid waste landfill into today's Freshkills Park. The cruise enters a network of active shipping lanes (channels?) and tidal streams to explore the unprecedented land reclamation project, nearly three times the size of Central Park! AIANY’s waterfront infrastructure guides provide insightful narration about Freshkills Park’s landscape architecture and ecology as well as features of the working harbor’s infrastructure encountered along Staten Island's northwest shore and Newark Bay.
