Modes of Practice is a salon series exploring the diverse ways urban design and planning are practiced today. Each salon features local NYC offices engaged in shaping cities—across planning, architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, economics, and engineering—to share insights, projects, and approaches that define the evolving field.

June’s committee meeting is hosted by SCAPE. The New York office will share examples of landscape planning and urban design projects. Lee Altman and Laura Marett will introduce SCAPE’s practice and approach, and use examples from recent projects to showcase landscape-forward urban design thinking with a strong emphasis on ecology, community resilience, and innovative public spaces. The presentation will demonstrate how planning, urban design, and infrastructure projects can prioritize the establishment of robust ecosystems and sustainable environments, supporting our public and institutional clients in their efforts to develop long-term resilience and adaptability.

Speakers:
Lee Altman, AIA, LEED AP, Principal
Laura Marett, RLA, LEED AP, Principal

The committees of AIA New York are the foundations from which the Chapter positions itself in the field of architecture, whether through discussion, advocacy, policy making and development, event and exhibition planning, or other endeavors.

Committees meet monthly, usually at the Center for Architecture. AIA members, AIA associate members, and general public are all welcome to participate.

If you have questions or are considering attending a meeting for the first time, contact each committee’s co-chairs for more information at aiany.org/committees.
