Join building environment Buro Happold engineers Chris Ashton and Kevin Morrisroe as they tackle the hot topic of cutting carbon in life science facilities. They’ll break down the must-dos for slashing emissions and talk about electrification and smart design that make buildings work better and smarter. The session will also focus on future-proofing, resiliency, and redundancy—key attributes that are essential in adapting to an ever-changing environment.

After attending this program, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the key strategies for reducing carbon emissions in life science facilities, including the role of electrification and smart design.
  2. Analyze the benefits of future-proofing buildings for enhanced resiliency and redundancy, and how these features contribute to sustainability.

Chris Ashton is a Principal at Buro Happold, renowned for his expertise in delivering life science buildings both in New York and across the nation. He leads multidisciplinary engineering projects, leveraging his diverse technical knowledge and past project experience to drive innovative solutions. Ashton is a firm believer in creative thinking to deliver sustainable initiatives tailored to local environments. His project management skills, combined with strong business acumen and the ability to engage and collaborate with relevant stakeholders, ensure the delivery of efficient, cost-effective designs. As a technical advisor on numerous complex projects, Ashton has successfully delivered projects across various sectors for prominent clients. Beyond his professional work, Ashton has lectured at prestigious institutions such as Columbia University and Pratt Institute, sharing his deep understanding of integrating engineering systems with architecture. His leadership and technical acumen guarantee the highest quality and client satisfaction in every project he undertakes.

Kevin Morrisroe, a critical member of Buro Happold’s New York team since 2016, brings over a decade of experience in the design and construction industry. His extensive design experience spans multiple sectors, including life sciences, cultural, higher education, residential, and performance spaces. Morrisroe’s project portfolio features acclaimed buildings such as TheatreSquared in Fayetteville, AR, a nationally celebrated public theater, and the Cornell Tech Executive Education Center on Roosevelt Island, a revolutionary campus redefining New York City’s status as a tech and innovation hub. He has also completed over 20 lab-focused projects. Morrisroe is passionate about all aspects of the building and construction industry. His extensive on-site and design project management experience enables him to deliver projects successfully. Morrisroe’s dedication to innovative building practices and sustainable design ensures that his projects not only meet but exceed client expectations.
