As architecture firms are deepening and expanding the time they spend on innovative solutions to design challenges—from energy efficiency to historic restoration with new materials, long term resilience, and health and wellness—they have come to rely on tax credits and deductions for recouping some of their investment in such research and development (R&D). Recently, extensive changes to tax code are impacting qualifying events and providing some new opportunities.

alliantgroup is collaborating with AIA New York to offer an in-person presentation that addresses these topics; firm leaders are encouraged to attend to understand these changes. The presentation will delve into how architects and engineers are dealing with the burden of the pending Section 174 legislation and how they leverage the 179D deduction to increase margins and lower bids when working on relevant government buildings such as libraries, schools, universities and city parks.

Joseph Kalkstein, 179D Practice Leader, will lead an interactive discussion where he will be breaking down how designers can maximize their deduction to:

  • Hedge against Congressional Uncertainty
  • Enhance Cash Flow
  • Bolster their bottom lines

Speaker:
Joseph Kalkstein, Associate Director, alliantgroup

About the Speaker:
Joseph Kalkstein is a Technical Director at alliantgroup. His area of expertise is helping clients claim energy incentives via the Energy Efficient Commercial Buildings Deduction, more commonly referred to as Section 179D. Prior to joining alliantgroup, Kalkstein leveraged his background in electrical engineering, applied economics, and management science to oversee operations at companies in the financial and renewable energy sectors focusing on specialty tax credits and incentives. In his time at alliantgroup, Kalkstein has been responsible for helping more than 3,200 taxpayers claim in excess of $1B in 179D Deductions.
