Born in 1997 in Chernihiv and now based in Paris, Oleksii Shcherbak is one of the most promising emerging artists in the Ukrainian contemporary art scene. Using traditional oil techniques alongside graphic elements and digital art, he creates enchanting realms reminiscent of a phantasmagoric, Victorian-tinted fairytale.

“VICTIMS OF GRENOUILLE,” a new series by Oleksii Scherbak, is inspired by Patrick Süskind’s famous novel “Perfume: The Story of a Murderer.” In this show, Oleksii delves into the world of perceptions, memories, and senses triggered by external stimuli. The artist’s reflections manifest as a complex interplay of subconscious sensations, where mythical illusions are woven into the character portraits. As a narrator, Scherbak shares with the audience vivid tales of enigmatic heroes, while exploring surrealistic and existential themes inspired by the book. The artist contemplates the impact of our inner-sensory experiences comparing them to tangible events of our daily lives

Don’t miss an opportunity to delve into Oleksii Scherbak’s grotesque fairytale world and immerse yourself in the mysterious Victorian atmosphere in the heart of modern NYC. The “VICTIMS OF GRENOUILLE” art show, organized by Rukh Art Hub in partnership with Razom for Ukraine, will be on display April 5—April 27 at Mriya Gallery, 101 Reade St., New York, NY 10013.
