Dress to Impress: The Intersection of Fashion and the Built Environment

Join us for a conversation between Andi Soos, independent curator, and Avery Trufelman, podcast host and radio producer, about the intersection of fashion and the built environment.

Architecture is often thought of as monumental and constant whereas fashion is considered soft and ephemeral. However, both architecture and fashion can both be envisioned as forms of public art. Each has the ability to convey identity, taste, politics, and religion while offering protection for the human body. The built environment and fashion surround everyone and reflect their behavior and habits. Urban spaces and attires can encourage human interactions but can also function as boundaries. Through exploring collaborations between architects and fashion designers, this conversation aims to unveil the parallels of creating spaces and clothing.

About the Speakers:
Avery Trufelman is the host and creator of the fashion podcast Articles Of Interest, which was named one of the best podcasts of the year by The New Yorker. She has been named one of the 500 most influential people in fashion by the trade journal The Business Of Fashion. Before that she was a longtime reporter on the architecture and design podcast 99% Invisible.

Andi Soós is a curator, writer and researcher from Budapest, Hungary. Her projects explore underground culture, human interactions in urban environments and the ways architecture influences communities. She is a PhD candidate in Design Culture Studies at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design. Currently she is a visiting researcher in New York on a Fulbright scholarship hosted by the Center for Architecture.
