The Interior Design Department honors interior designer Joel Sanders with its 2023 Lawrence Israel Prize.

From his pioneering “House for a Bachelor” included in MoMA’s Un-Private House exhibition to “Your Restroom Is a Battleground” in the last Venice Architecture Biennale, globally renowned interior designer Joel Sanders’ provocations have upended preconceptions of gender and space.

The Lawrence Israel Prize Lecture Series returns after a four-year hiatus, and FIT’s Interior Design Department has awarded the 2023 prize to Sanders. Prior awardees include Annabelle Selldorf, Karim Rashid, Lot-ek, David Rockwell, Gaetano Pesce, Diller Scofidio + Renfro and Tony Chi. Joel Sanders’ lecture will address Inclusive Design: Equity, Access and Wellness.

This event is free and open to the public.
