By now you’ve likely heard about NFTs: the $23+ billion cryptographic industry that has exploded in recent years. Christies sold an NFT of digital artwork for $69 million. An NFT of Jack Dorsey’s first tweet sold for over $2.9 million. NBA’s Top Shot NFT program has resulted in over $885 million in sales. NFTs are selling for astronomical prices and opening new markets and opportunities for monetizing creative works in ways that previously did not exist. It is no surprise that now architectural designs are being minted, sold, and resold as NFTs. As these NFTs gain foothold in the architecture and design industry, it is critically important that architects understand the copyright and contractual issues surrounding this innovative technology. During this webinar, attorneys Robert A. Banner, Mioko C. Tajika, and Kimberly L. Barcella will discuss how NFTs are being used in the world of architecture and design, relevant considerations under copyright law, and offer practical insight on what architects may want to know about venturing into NFTs.
