Building Tour of the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and National Shrine

The AIANY Cultural Facilities Committee invites you to join us for a special tour of the Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and National Shrine at the World Trade Center.

The original Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church was founded in 1916 in a small row house that was originally used as a tavern. Greek immigrants of lower Manhattan purchased it in 1892 to create a community home. For many Greeks coming to America, it was among their first stops after arriving in Ellis Island. Everything changed on 9/11, when Saint Nicholas was destroyed in the collapse of World Trade Center Tower 2. The current project, developed by the Friends of St. Nicholas, is based on designs by Santiago Calatrava.

Tour Guides:
The tour will begin at the offices of Sterling Project Development at 4 World Trade Center for a presentation by Nicholas P. Koutsomitis, Principal of KAPC (executive architect), along with representatives from Skanska (construction manager) and Thornton Tomasetti (structural and façade engineers). The group will then tour the interior of the building, led by members of the project team.

The safety and comfort of our guides and guests is our number one priority. By registering for this tour, you acknowledge and agree to adhere to the following guidelines:

• Face masks are recommended for all during the introductory remarks inside the offices and will be required on the active construction site. When outside, vaccinated individuals may remove masks.
• This is an active construction site, so everyone should dress accordingly. Everyone should have closed-toed shoes with hard soles, hard hats, safety eyewear, N-95 masks, safety vests, and work gloves. If you do not have these, please indicate this to the organizer so we can have enough extras available.
