New Urbanism is the cutting-edge urban design canon that is creating better places to live that reduce sprawl and respond to climate change.  A panel of experts will present an invigorating overview of New Urbanism.

Jeff Speck is the author of the bestselling city planning book of the past decade, Walkable City. He is also the leader of an award-winning urban planning firm. Joining him for a discussion on high-quality urban planning are Shelley Poticha, Chief Climate Strategist of the Natural Resource Defense Council, and Marc Wouters of an award-winning planning firm in Brooklyn.

The event will include discussion of Battery Park City, one of the most successful examples of New Urbanism in the NY area.  Topics to be discussed by the panel include historic preservation of urban districts, the creation of social equity in communities, affordable housing, methods to address climate change, and sustainable transportation.

A reception will follow.
