Join Building Energy Exchange, AIA New York, and ASHRAE New York for a BE-Ex Architect Advisory Council (AAC) discussion on energy modeling and performance design, where leading experts will discuss the emerging necessity of integrating energy modeling into practice as a tool for high-performance design, construction, and compliance.

Throughout the design and construction process, energy modeling can act as a powerful design and monitoring tool for achieving required energy performance outcomes. Furthermore, to comply with New York’s predicted energy use code (Local Law 32), projects with an area of 25,000 squar feet or greater will be required to submit an energy model that demonstrates compliance with aggressive energy targets. To comply with this new law, architects must learn how to effectively use energy modeling as a tool throughout the design process—for energy performance monitoring, law compliance, and climate action.

This workshop follows actionable steps outlined in the AAC vision document, “Who Cares About Energy Codes? The Architect’s Guide to New York City’s Aggressive Carbon Reduction Code.” In collaboration with AIA New York and ASHRAE New York, Building Energy Exchange will convene key stakeholders to discuss how to comply with Local Law 32 energy modeling requirements, how energy modeling can be used at various stages in the design and construction process, and how to scale and integrate energy modeling in architectural education.

Speakers:
Apoorv Goyal, Associate, Elementa Engineering
Michael Bobker, Founding Director, CIUS Building Performance Lab; Associate Director, CUNY Institute for Urban Systems
