About the Speakers:
Gaylin M. Bowie is an Associate and Senior Project Manager at Robert A. M. Stern Architects, a leading design firm that has established an international reputation for experience in a broad range of project types—with a commitment to quality of design and a particular attention to detail. She specializes in complex mixed-use developments, multi-family residential, hospitality and civic work. She served as project manager for RAMSA’s Product Design-Decorative Arts and holds a joint-patent for a site lighting design with Landscape Forms.Gaylin is committed to changing ‘the face of architecture’ to one that is more inclusive and diverse and serves as a Staffing Coordinator as well as an Advisory Board Member to RAMSA’ s Inclusion Diversity and Equity Alliance I.D.E.A.Committee. As a graduate of The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, she credits her alma mater for giving austere thought-provoking critiques, stressing the importance of the arts and providing a ‘stage’ for open dialogue. Gaylin also paints, is a jewelry designer, and spoken-word artist.
Shannon Rodriguez joined FXCollaborative in 2005 and is the firm’s Human Resource Director. She was promoted to Associate in 2014, Senior Associate in 2016 and to her current role in 2019. With over 15 years of experience, she is responsible for performance management, mentoring and training programs, employee relations, recruiting, staffing, and benefits administration. Shannon is also responsible for the fi rm’s internship and scholarship programs providing opportunities to students from diverse backgrounds and has been instrumental in helping to establish FXCollaborative’s diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and is an advocate for all employees. She holds a Legal Studies degree from John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
KirkNarburgh brings thirty-four years of professional experience to his position as CEO/Managing Partner at King + King Architects and is the partner-in-charge of education projects for both higher education and K-12 environments. He is an adjunct professor at Syracuse University’s School of Architecture where he has been teaching Professional Practice and Digital Technology classes every semester for the past thirty years. He is the past 2012 President of the Central New York American Institute of Architects, the 2018 President of the New York State American Institute of Architects, and currently serves as the New York State regional representative to the AIA National Strategic Council Class of 2022. Kirk is an alumnus of Syracuse University where he earned a Master of Architecture (’90) and Cornell University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture (’87).
Michael Ermann has helped 15,000 emerging professionals study for the ARE (230 firms have enrolled too). He was the first person in the nation to pass all six ARE 5.0 divisions, and has taught intensive three-day courses at AIA New York, AIA Miami, AIA Dallas, AIA Houston, AIA Raleigh, AIA Northern Virginia, AIA New Orleans, AIA New Mexico, AIA Alaska, and AIA Washington DC. The small portion of the course he’s posted on YouTube has more than 6 million views and more than 30,000 subscribers. Michael is a full tenured professor at Virginia Tech where he’s taught design studio, building systems, materials & methods of construction, and advanced architectural acoustics for 20 years. He’s pretty sure he knows more about this test and how people study for it than anyone in the world.
