This educational workshop for faith-based organizations will cover the fundamentals of real-estate use, adaptation, and development in New York City. Expert panelists will describe the possibilities, processes, players, risks, resources, and policy goals associated with the physical assets of communities of faith. This event is a collaboration between the AIANY Cultural Facilities Committee and Bricks and Mortals.

Bricks and Mortals is a grassroots membership organization comprised of individuals and organizations from faith-based institutions and the development sector that provides resources, connections, and trainings to empower congregations in NYC to maximize and monetize their real property to support their mission, benefit the community, and continue their good work.

About the Speakers:

Taylor Aikin, AIA, is an Associate Partner with MBB Architects, where he leads a broad range of project types and scales from cultural and educational to religious and residential. He is a founding Board member at Bricks and Mortals.

Rev. Dr. Donna Schaper is Senior Minister for Judson Memorial Church, associate professor for religious leadership at Hartford Seminary and author of 38 books, including, most recently Remove the Pews. She is a founding Board Co-Chair at Bricks and Mortals.

Jason Labate is a Partner at Goldstein Hall Attorneys, focusing on faith-based development, not-for-profit law, affordable housing, and community development. He is a founding Board Co-Chair at Bricks and Mortals.

Kate Toth is the Executive Director at Bricks and Mortals. With a background in advocacy, program development and fundraising, Toth has more than 15 years of experience supporting and empowering vulnerable communities.

Matthew Dunbar is Vice President for External Affairs at Habitat for Humanity. Dunbar is an experienced non-profit executive with a demonstrated history of working in the advocacy and affordable housing fields. He is a member of the Bricks and Mortals Leadership Committee.
