Smart buildings, integrated building technology, the Internet of things (IoT) are hot buzz words today… but what do they mean? And more importantly, how does all this integration make buildings better? Although the concepts of smart buildings can be applied to a wide range of building typologies this presentation is specific to applications and benefits in the healthcare environment. This course will explain the concepts of integrated building technology and define the fundamental design philosophy and components necessary for a truly interactive facility. Through case studies, we explore opportunities offered by a mobile device platform for improved occupant experience and operational savings over traditional facilities. We will identify potential revenue streams for integrated facilities and demonstrate their advantages to clients and facility operators.
