COVID-19 has drastically shifted how we interact with our urban environments and turned some industries on their heads, specifically hospitality, retail, institutional, and office. Now, a year since the outbreak, the role and expertise of architects and designers becomes ever-more critica,l as these spaces lay underutilized and under-equipped for the new age of public health requirements. The next couple of years will lay the groundwork for how hard-hit industries can re-imagine and re-build themselves.

In its first offering for 2021, TORCH, a mentoring program developed by the AIANY Emerging New York Architects Committee, will digitally convene distinguished AIA Fellows who will share their extraordinary career paths and reflect on how their practice has been impacted by, how they have adapted to, and the opportunities that may continue to manifest amidst spatial, social and economic disruptions.
