ARAKHAN SAMSUDEEN KHAN is a Registered Professional Engineer of the NYS. Mr. Arakhan joined EnTech Engineering as Director of Environmental Permits & Regulations after a 32-year career at New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC). He is a former DEC Regional Hazardous Waste Remediation Engineer (Long Island City: 2017 -2019), former DEC Regional Solid Waste Engineer (Long Island City: 2010 -2016) and former DEC Regional Environmental Quality Engineer (Hudson Valley: 2016 – 2017). Immediately prior to leaving NYSDEC, Mr. Arakhan managed New York State’s Region 2 (NYC) Brownfield, RCRA-C, Oil Spills Response & Remediation, and Chemical & Petroleum Bulk Storage and Pollution Prevention programs. Prior to those management roles, Mr. Arakhan performed hazardous waste permit writing, hazardous waste site investigation & remediation, Solid Waste permits regulatory review, and hazardous waste/solid waste compliance enforcement. Major projects he worked on included (i) hazardous waste remediation of Con Edison’s 325-acre site in Astoria; (ii) conversion of Ferry Point Landfill to Ferry Point Golf Course & Community Park; (iii) conversion of the illegal Oak Point Landfill to warehouses and (iv) installation of cover at Fresh Kills Landfill’s largest mound, Section 1/9.

Objective: Objective of this lecture is to learn NYSDEC regulations and management of Environmental Remediation. This presentation is certified for one (1) Professional Development Hour (pdh) /1 LU.
