Continuing our Design Presentation Series, we are delighted to have Ayumi Sugiyama, the Director of Cultural Projects at SHoP, joining us in this special Archtober WIA Monthly Committee Meeting.
After a brief announcement of the WIA Upcoming Events & Programs, Around Town & Related Events, and Topics & Good Reads, Ayumi will present us two of her projects: Barclays Center and the American Copper Buildings.

AIANY WIA Committee Co-Chairs
Ayumi Sugiyama is Director of Cultural Projects at SHoP Architects with an expertise in the design and delivery of complex urban projects with significant public space programs and complicated stakeholder groups. Ayumi has acted as project director for several of the firm’s most prominent and award-winning projects, including the Barclays Center arena in Brooklyn, the American Copper Buildings and the New Academic Building at FIT in New York, and the SITE Santa Fe contemporary art center in New Mexico, where she also spearheaded the conceptualization and design of workSHoP, an exhibition of SHoP’s body of work. Her current projects include a mixed-use tower in downtown Toronto, and a residential tower in Rotterdam. Ayumi also organizes the Art Talk series at SHoP, engaging artists and organizations to exchange work and processes and building a foundation for better integrating art into architectural projects from their conception. She received a Master of Architecture from Yale University and a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley.
