This event will provide an overview of the AIANY Day of Service, with highlights from the 2020 event.
Project leaders from the four participating teams will discuss the work of the non-profit organization they partnered with, as well as the collaborative processes of design, material procurement, and implementation. Presentations will highlight each of the the designs and build days where applicable. Special attention will be given to how these project teams had to work within COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions this year. Finally, AIA New York will provide guidance for other AIA chapters and groups considering launching their own service day programs. 2020 projects include an urban garden upgrade for Services for the Underserved (S:US) led by Dattner Architects, a school library renovation for Concrete Safaris led by Ennead Architects, a community garden redesign for Rebuilding Together NYC led by FXCollaborative and NBBJ Architects, and a renewal of an exterior recreation space for a Bowery Residents Committee shelter led by Urbahn Architects and Schuler Shook Theatre Planning and Lighting Design.
