Organized by AIA Brooklyn and Pratt Institute School of Architecture, this lecture led by Pratt Professors Lida Aljabar and Nidhi Gulati will introduce participants to the importance of the public realm, placemaking and community engagement in creating healthy, equitable and resilient communities. With the onset of physical distancing measures due to the COVID-19 pandemic, communities are reinventing gathering places in digital spaces, affecting how people relate to their local environments and one another. Urban placemaking offers tools for supporting communities, tailored to their unique needs, assets and challenges. This course will explore placemaking in the context of these virtual realities, crisis recovery, and long-term resilience.
