Rudolph / Yale led by Carl Abott

The Paul Rudolph Heritage Foundation is pleased to announce a special presentation co-sponsored by the Sarasota Architectural Foundation.

The presentation will be led by Carl Abbott.

Carl was a member of Paul Rudolph’s hand-selected Master’s Class of 1961-62, and his classmates included Norman Foster, Richard Rogers, Tai Soo Kim, Gene Kinoshita and Eldred Evans. Of that group, Robert Stern said “…it was the Master’s Class of 1961-62 … that stands out as the most dazzling of the Rudolph years.”

Carl will discuss Rudolph’s hands-on approach to teaching and his individual drawing-board reviews and critiques. He will cover important figures who interacted with the Master Class including Vincent Scully, Louis Kahn, Serge Chermayeff, James Sterling, Phillip Johnson, Henry-Russell Hitchcock, and others. He will also discuss exchange visits the class took to other universities and stories about architectural travels the group took together.
