Professionals in the built environment spend their careers designing inclusive spaces for people of all backgrounds and cultures. But how can architects and engineers better advocate for the underrepresented and groups within our own professions? Dialogue on the inclusion of marginalized group has been at the forefront of conversations across our industry in recent years. Architecture and engineering firms have united to support the Women’s March, World Pride, and Black History Month, among others. Behind the scenes, professional organizations work year-round to promote of equitable practices and policy, and provide educational events and networking opportunities.
The SEAoNY Diversity Committee is bringing the organizations at the forefront of championing industry-wide change together for What’s Next?: A Discussion on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) in the Built Environment. Participating EDI organizations will provide a short presentation on the work and goals of their organizations or initiatives. This will be followed by a panel discussion on the future of EDI policy and practices in the AEC industry, and networking opportunities between EDI organizations.
