The Power of Public Space in a Digital Age

Affiliated with UN Habitat and the United Nations, the Consortium for Sustainable Urbanization (CSU) assists in implementing the New Urban Agenda, the UN’s declaration on sustainable cities and UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 11). One key component of the New Urban Agenda is quality public space.

Public space has always been the focal point for communal action, the locus of collective consciousness, and the representation of meaning and morals in a community. How much of this power does public space still have in a digital age?

Join us for a discussion on the consequences of the detachment of citizens from their immediate physical urban environment through information technology and speculation on how information technology can be utilized to augment physical public space that can form urban communities in a digital age.

*Registrants must provide their name EXACTLY as it appears on a valid government-issued photo ID that they must bring and have at hand for UN Security inspection. Upon registration CSU will make arrangements for you to receive your UN guest pass at United Nations Visitor’s entrance on 46th St and First Avenue. Please arrive 45 minutes in advance of the event to complete the security process and bring a picture ID. Due to security regulations, we are not permitted to overbook this event. If you reserve a ticket and cannot attend please cancel your reservation so that we may make your seat available to others.
