Updated 4/30/2019: Listen to the podcast featuring Elizabeth Diller on PersonPlaceThing.org.
Person Place Thing is an interview show hosted by Randy Cohen based on the idea that people are particularly engaging when they speak, not directly about themselves, but about something they care about.
Cohen’s guests talk about one person, one place, and one thing that are important to them. The result: surprising stories from great speakers. This installment of Person Place Thing will be a conversation with Elizabeth Diller, Founding Partner, Diller Scofidio + Renfro. This will be the second of three installments presented at the Center for Architecture.
This event will be recorded for broadcast on Northeast Public Radio. For more information and to hear past episodes, visit PersonPlaceThing.org.

Randy Cohen’s first professional work was writing humor pieces, essays, and stories for newspapers and magazines (The New Yorker, Harpers, The Atlantic, Young Love Comics). His first television work was writing for “Late Night With David Letterman,” for which he won three Emmy awards. His fourth Emmy was for his work on Michael Moore’s “TV Nation.” He received a fifth Emmy as a result of a clerical error, and he kept it. For twelve years he wrote “The Ethicist,” a weekly column for The New York Times Magazine. His most recent book, Be Good: How to Navigate the Ethics of Everything, was published by Chronicle.
Elizabeth Diller is a founding partner of Diller Scofidio + Renfro (DS+R), an interdisciplinary design studio based in New York. Liz’s cross-genre work has been distinguished with TIME’s “100 Most Influential People” list and the first MacArthur Foundation fellowship awarded in the field of architecture. She is currently leading two cultural works significant to New York: The Shed—the first center dedicated to commissioning, producing, and presenting all types of performing arts, visual arts, and popular culture – and the expansion of MoMA (both opening 2019). Liz also created, directed and produced The Mile-Long Opera, an immersive choral work staged on the High Line this October. Most recently, DS+R was selected to design the Centre for Music, a permanent home for the London Symphony Orchestra; a new Collection and Research Centre for the V&A in London’s Olympic Park; and Adelaide Contemporary, a new gallery in Australia. Liz is Professor of Architecture at Princeton University.
