A former military base virtually unknown to New Yorkers for nearly two centuries, Governors Island has been activated into a beloved seasonal destination for recreation, arts, culture, learning, and play, with a new, resilient-designed park overlooking the harbor. With a park nearly complete and destination appeal, the island is moving into the next chapter of its transformation, with the activation of 1.5M square feet of historic buildings, and a new planning framework for development of up to 4.5M square feet of new education, research, and cultural facilities on the island’s southern half.

Join Michael Samuelian, President of the Trust for Governors Island, and Amy Plitt, Editor of Curbed New York, for a conversation about the future of this unique resource for the city and the vision for a year-round, 24/7 Governors Island.

Speakers:
Michael Samuelian, President & CEO, The Trust for Governors Island
Amy Plitt, Editor, Curbed New York
