Join the 2018 AIANY Civic Leadership Program as we explore alternative placemaking processes with guests who are leading conversations about the democratization of the built environment. We will examine how design is being championed through non-traditional models, explore various opportunities for professionals to deepen their civic engagement, and understand the role and relevance of the architect in various sensitive contexts. Engaging in open dialogue, we will focus on collaborative, grassroots-led initiatives and innovation through the re-interpretation and reuse of space. By looking at the periphery of design, we hope to connect the field of architecture to other areas of influence.
We will build collective knowledge through short introductory presentations followed by participants progressing through a series of four small group roundtable discussions with each speaker.
Speakers:
Caitlin Pontrella, Executive Director, Parkour Visions
Haiyan Khan, Founder, Santosha Village
Christopher Hartsfield, Outdoor Play Manager, Concrete Safaris
Emma Osore, Co-Founder, BlackSpace
