The Brooklyn Navy Yard is one of New York City’s fastest growing centers of technology, design, and creative manufacturing. From 1801 to 1966, the yard served as the US Navy’s premier shipbuilding and production complex. Today, it is home to more than 200 businesses, many specializing in the AEC industry. This tour will visit three of these industry leaders within the Brooklyn Navy Yard: SITU Fabrication, New Lab, and the Consortium for Research and Robotics.

Advanced registration is required for this event. Confirmed attendees will be emailed an event pass that will be necessary to enter the Brooklyn Navy Yard on the day of the event. Please allow adequate travel time to get to the area. Participants should meet 15 minutes prior to the event time at SITU Fabrication (Building 132). Groups of 20 will then be led to the next two tour locations.

Drinks and snacks will be provided over an informal discussion at SITU Fabrication after the conclusion of the tour.

Led by:
Michael Brotherton, AIA, VP of Operations, SITU Fabrication
Stephanie Hemshrot, Director of Programming and Events, New Lab
Mark Parsons, Founder and Executive Director, Consortium for Research and Robotics

SITU Fabrication is a digital fabrication shop specializing in the engineering and construction of experimental and technically demanding projects. Working as one division of SITU, an unconventional architecture practice, the team uses design, research and fabrication for creative and social impact.

New Lab is defining the future of technology and human experience. We support entrepreneurs working in advanced technologies including robotics, AI, connected devices, nanotechnology, urban tech, and more. With 84,000 square feet of resident space, on-site Product Realization resources, specialized programming and events, and access to a network that includes city agencies, venture capitalists, domain experts, and leading corporations, New Lab makes innovation move faster.

The Consortium for Research and Robotics brings together industry and higher education for research with New York City’s largest industrial robot for R&D, business incubation, academic research, and STEM programs that invest in the community.
