FIGMENT NYC Participatory Art Festival

FIGMENT NYC is an explosion of creative energy—a free annual celebration of participatory art and culture where anything is possible. For one weekend each summer, FIGMENT transforms Governors Island into a large-scale collaborative artwork. FIGMENT began in 2007 as a cultural catalyst to re-imagine this former military base as a place for artistic expression. FIGMENT has grown to other locations, and has to date hosted 62 participatory art events in 19 cities in 5 countries. BBC Travel has written, “If FIGMENT were a country, it would be the happiest in the world—and I would apply for citizenship immediately.”

Everyone is invited and encouraged to submit or bring an interactive creative project for FIGMENT NYC. Details are on our website. Submissions will be open from March 1 to mid-May, 2018. Even if you miss the deadline, you are welcome to bring a project, provided you can carry it with you on the ferry to the island, and that it does require any special placement or infrastructure.

Price: Free. No RSVP required.

Directions: Take the ferry from 10 South Street (daily) or Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier 6 (weekends) to Governors Island
