The Center for Architecture will host an Archtober Building of the Day preview across the five boroughs from May 14-18 celebrating New York City old and new. Today, tour the Bronx Post Office adaptive reuse by STUDIO V Architecture.

The adaptive re-use and renovation of the Bronx Post Office by STUDIO V Architecture emphasizes access to the surrounding community through a new mixed-use program that opens the building to a once-isolated streetscape. The preservation and re-use efforts include the renovation of WPA-era murals in the lobby and the addition of an open marketplace concept which will serve as a fluid transition between the street traffic and the landmarked interior. Sightlines are emphasized through these new entrances through the massive historic arched windows to help promote transparency from the exterior. The firm has created a design that promotes accessible commercial growth, new flexible office space throughout the building, and increased amenities including a contemporary rooftop addition for a restaurant and bar that captures views of the surrounding city.
