Building of the Day: Naval Cemetery Landscape
Today, the Naval Cemetery Landscape provides a place for retreat and remembrance. In previous centuries the 1.7 acre site was used as an unmarked burial ground serving the Brooklyn Naval Hospital. Decommissioned in the 1920s, the Naval Cemetery Landscape is now the first park along the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway. The gatehouse provides the threshold to a memorial meadow and sacred grove, framed by an undulating boardwalk lifted above a warm-season grass and wildflower meadow. Architect:
