Join the AIANY Science and Research Facilities Committee for a tour of the Lewis-Sigler Integrative Genomics building by Rafael Viñoly Architects, and the Frick Chemistry Laboratory by Hopkins Architects and Payette at Princeton University. These are not only important research environments, but also are superior architectural expressions for their sites.

The mission of the Lewis-Sigler Institute for Integrative Genomics is to conduct pioneering research into fundamental questions of biology by integrating perspectives and analytical tools of molecular biology, chemistry, physics and computer analysis. To help achieve these goals, the Carl Icahn Laboratory, among the first fully integrated labs in America, was designed to unite researchers from a variety of disciplines and encourage a free exchange of thoughts and findings.

The Frick Chemistry Laboratory building provides a new home to reinvigorate the Department of Chemistry and integrates teaching and high-level research spaces in a facility which enhances interaction, collaboration and creativity. The design allows the main programmatic elements of faculty offices and laboratory research spaces to be expressed through massing: offices are accommodated in the towers facing the campus woodland, whilst laboratories are housed in a deep linear block to the rear.

The design incorporates a number of sustainable features including one of the largest integrated photovoltaic arrays in the US, a pre-manufactured façade, greywater recycling, chilled beams and extensive use of natural lighting coupled with daylight sensors throughout the interior.

Participants will meet at the Princeton train station at 10:30 am.
