This seminar reviews the latest changes to the 2016 NYC Energy Conservation Code (NYCECC). The course will also include a summary of the substantive changes that have been made in the move from the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) 2009 to the IECC 2015 Residential provisions and from the IECC 2012 to the IECC 2015 Commercial provisions, the changes made by the New York State Fire Prevention and Building Code Council, and the local provisions added by the NYC Department of Buildings.

Gina Bocra is the Chief Sustainability Officer at the New York City Department of Buildings. She is an architect with over 20 years of experience in sustainable design, and holds a Master of Urban + Environmental Planning from the University of Virginia. She has volunteered with the US Green Building Council since 1997, assisting with the technical development of multiple LEED rating systems, a subject matter expert on three LEED exams, was a Founding interim-officer of the National Capital Region USGBC Chapter, and now serves as the Vice Chair of the LEED Technical Committee. With the NYC Department of Buildings, Bocra is working on the implementation of the One City Built to Last Plan, developing procedures to enforce the Energy Code, and supporting continued development of the New York City’s Construction Codes to accommodate advances in sustainability. She has recently served as a liaison for the Department to the One City Built to Last Technical Working Group and the NYSERDA Stretch Code Advisory Working Group. Bocra is a licensed architect in New York and Virginia.
Emily Hoffman is the Director of Energy Code Compliance for the NYC Department of Buildings, overseeing the team ensuring compliance with all new buildings and alterations in the 5 boroughs. Much of her work is spent educating the public on energy code compliance, researching technical issues relating to energy code, updating energy code policies along with enforcement procedures and ensuring top level compliance within the energy code compliance team. Hoffman received both a BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis and has over 10 years of experience involving energy modeling, energy auditing and commissioning. She recently served on the International Code Council Energy Conservation Committee for the 2018 IECC Commercial Energy Code and as a liaison to the NYC Mayor’s Office of Sustainability technical working group committee. Hoffman is a licensed professional engineer in New York State.
