As we move forward through designing your new brick and mortar space, let’s also consider how you can make the most out of your investment in our organization. How can you ensure sustainability not just from a climate perspective, but also in the longevity of your organization?

In this day-long convening of the Building HueSpaces series, we will be considering sustainability from all angles and definitions as we come together with the AIANY Cultural Facilities Committee, organizations of color committed to the sustainability of fellow orgs of color, and more.

Culminate this series with us as we think about the long term usage of physical arts spaces and celebrate the power of collaboration.

For this Building HueSpaces celebratory day-long convening, we will focus on the sustainability of arts and cultural organizations and the continued growth of our communities.  The historic Weeksville Heritage Center serves as the gathering site and as an incredible and withstanding example of how an arts and cultural organization can preserve and sustain the legacy of a community.  Everardo Jefferson, Commissioner of New York City Landmarks Preservation and the Principal Architect of Weeksville’s Cultural Center, will share insights into both his roles and the significance of the historic site. Other speakers throughout the day will highlight vast efforts in preserving Black communities all across New York’s five boroughs, from built spaces to designated areas. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn, network, and spark creativity while being in community with peers. In this culminating Building HueSpaces event, we look toward the future and celebrate the power of collaboration and community.

Building HueSpaces stems from the research findings and recommendation in the HueArts NYC Brown Paper report led by Museum Hue, which highlights a greater need in investing in place as a long-term strategy for Black, Indigenous, Asian, Latine, and all People of Color arts stability and thrivability.

This series is made possible due to generous funding from the Ford Foundation.
