To accelerate deep energy efficiency retrofits, cities need better collaboration and international knowledge exchange. Strict building codes, energy labeling, and an innovative approach to decarbonization of the building industry have made Denmark a world leader in energy efficiency. In New York, the historic CLCPA and LL97 climate laws have put NYS and NYC at the forefront of the building retrofit industry and both the state and the city has a strong tradition for spurring innovation and developing new technologies.

During this session organized by Danish Cleantech Hub and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, Danish and American specialists will exchange ideas on how to leverage building retrofits to support innovation, ensuring energy efficiency and a healthy in-door climate while still preserving architectural design integrity. Through a series of presentations, leading Danish companies will pitch their solutions and ideas to the challenges and opportunities that architects, developers, engineers, and sustainability professionals must consider when decarbonizing New York’s building stock, towards an American expert panel. As several of the presenting companies are market leading within their field—some are even world leaders—this is a unique opportunity to gain knowledge and insight on leading innovative approaches to sustainable solutions in the built environment.

The speakers will discuss topics such as how to overcome the barriers of decarbonizing buildings, and strategies to maximize the performance and benefits while minimizing costs and preserving architectural design. Ultimately, this event will try and answer the question: What innovative solutions are needed to accelerate the decarbonization of New York City’s building stock?

This event is offered in person and virtually; proof of complete COVID-19 vaccination (for attendees age 5 and over) with photo ID and masking are required in order to attend in person. Food and beverages will be served. Masks are recommended when not actively consuming food and beverages. Read our full Health and Safety Protocol here.
