Architecture at Home: House of the Future

Learn more about architecture and design from the comfort of your own home with our free, live, and online Architecture at Home workshops led by Center for Architecture educators. Each session explores an architectural topic through virtual tours, interactive lessons and discussions, and gets kids started on a design project they can complete on their own with easy-to-find materials.    

All Architecture at Home events require a device with internet connection and camera. Workshops are FREE and are open to all at-home learners, families, and youth ages 5+.  

How will we live in the future? What can we learn from the past to help guide us? In this workshop, we’ll look back to the very first homes ever built here by Native American tribes. These green builders used local, natural materials to create dwellings that were well-suited to the climate and their lifestyles, keeping our built and natural environments in balance. Let these inspire your own designs for a home of the future that carries these ideals into the next century! Family design teams are encouraged! 

Materials: Found natural objects (sticks, leaves, etc.), recyclables (varied paper, boxes, cardboard, caps, netting, corks, etc.), glue, scissors, tape  

Your design can be entered into the Indigenous Futurism model-building contest, a program of the Center for Architecture Lab created by our current resident designers, the Indigenous Scholars of Architecture, Planning and Design (ISAPD). 

Please note: this special program is an hour and a half.
