About the speakers:

Michelle Cohn joined NCARB in 2014 and serves as the Assistant Vice President of Examination.  She has experience on all aspects of exam development and operations, including working with volunteers on NCARB’s exam-related committees and supporting candidates currently testing. Cohn also participates in Council outreach efforts to universities and the profession, promoting the value of licensure to candidates throughout the licensure process. Prior to joining NCARB, Cohn had over a decade of architectural experience.  Her work as a designer, project architect, and project manager included institutional, mixed-use, residential, and affordable housing projects across all phases of design and construction.  Originally from the DC area, Cohn earned a Master of Architecture degree from Tulane University.  She’s a licensed architect in Washington, DC, holds the NCARB Certificate, and is certified as a Project Management Professional.

Robert Lopez, RA has been the Executive Secretary to the New York State Board for Architecture at the New York State Education Department since 2005. Prior to joining NYSED, he was a principal and shareholder at a large, international architecture and engineering firm where he led the firm’s K-12 Studio as its director.

Martin Smith joined NCARB in 2009 when he was hired to develop and expand NCARB’s outreach efforts to universities and the profession. Today he has an important role in the development and oversight of the Architectural Experience Program® (AXPTM), Architect Licensing Advisors Program, alternative programs for NCARB Certification, and additional programs within the Experience + Education directorate. Smith has 10 years of architectural design and construction management experience. He has worked for architectural firms in New York City and New Canaan, CT. His projects varied from single and multi-family residential projects to commercial and university buildings, with a focus on adaptive re-use and historic preservation projects.
