Buildings of Excellence: Greening the Box

Join NYSERDA and BE-Ex for our fifth NYSERDA Buildings of Excellence Gallery Talk, featuring 425 Grand Concourse, Park Avenue Green, and La Central Building C, three exemplary Passive House buildings and Buildings of Excellence award recipients.

Last year, the New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA) revealed their $30 million Buildings of Excellence competition, recognizing low- and zero-carbon emitting buildings. NYSERDA President and CEO, Alicia Barton, announced the competition during the Buildings of Excellence Launch here at BE-Ex.

The Buildings of Excellence competition is an innovative effort to advance climate action goals across New York State by incentivizing the design, construction, and operation of buildings that improve quality of life with little or no carbon impact. This past October, NYSERDA announced round one award winners for 26 projects in the categories of Early Design, Late Design, Under Construction and Post-Completion Performance Optimization.

In partnership with NYSERDA, the Building Energy Exchange is hosting a series of gallery talks dedicated to a range of design strategies, building systems, and case studies that provide potential pathways to net-zero building performance.

Featured Projects

This panel will feature three new affordable housing Passive House developments in the Bronx: 425 Grand Concourse, a mixed-use and mixed-income high-rise multifamily project seeking PHIUS+ 2015 certification; La Central Building C, a 100% affordable housing development seeking Passive House Plus certification via an all-electric building; and Park Avenue Green, North America’s largest affordable Passive House.
