Join the AIANY Interiors Committee in Montauk, NY for the Annual Hamptons Tour. This year’s tour will take participants to Lauren Rottet’s home, originally designed by George Nelson and Gordon Chadwick, and renovated by Lauren Rottet of Rottet Studio.

In 1950 George Nelson partnered with Gordon Chadwick, a protégé of Frank Lloyd Wright, to launch an architectural practice whose work includes the Rudolph and Ethel Johnson house (1962) in Montauk, NY. According to architectural historian Caroline Rob Zaleski, the house was sold in 1989 when Johnson’s son Richard was distraught with the way his childhood home had been compromised. He subsequently decided to rebuild a replica of the home on a nearby lot, utilizing both the original specifications and contractor. The son lived in the house until he sold it to a couple, who then resold it in 2012 to Houston architect and interior designer Lauren Rottet.

Rottet restored the 2900-square-foot abode, modifying the floor plan and adding landscaping and modern flourishes, while preserving and maintaining the interior spaces and the integrity of the 1962 design.

The house tour will include the entire two-story home and highlight its distinct features.
