John Kamocsai, PE, Lead Structural Engineer for the Port Authority of NY & NJ
Joseph LoBuono, PE, Technical Director for Major Bridges – HDR
Mr. Kamocsai is a Structural Engineer with over 30 years of design experience. He is a registered Professional Engineer in both New York and New Jersey. He received his Bachelors of Engineering degree in 1987 from Manhattan College, and his Masters of Science in Engineering, also from Manhattan College in 1989. He began his career at The Port Authority of NY & NJ, and has been the structural designer for major rehabilitation projects at JFK, LaGuardia and Newark Airports, Lincoln and Holland Tunnels, and PATH. Mr. Kamocsai was also the lead Port Authority Structural Engineer for the Authority, following the attack of the World Trade Center in 2001, and worked at the site throughout the cleanup operation. He also supervised the design effort for the restoration of PATH service. He was subsequently involved in all aspects of the reconstruction of the site. Mr. Kamocsai is currently the Chief Structural Engineer for the Port Authority’s Engineering Department.
Mr. LoBuono has over 49 years of consulting engineering experience in the field of bridge design and construction. He holds a BSCE degree from Manhattan College, Bronx, NY and currently serves as HDR’s Technical Director for Major Bridges. His experience includes being the Project Manager or Technical Director on such notable projects as the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, the Dame Point Bridge and Rt. 9 SB over the Raritan Bridge – NJDOT’s first Design-Build Bridge Project. He has been the Lead Engineer for the Bayonne Bridge Project since its inception – 9 years. This includes the feasibility phase, the design development phase, the PS&E phase and now the construction support phase.
The objective of today’s lecture is The need for the Project, The Project’s development process, The proposed modifications to the original bridge, Issues in making an 80 year old structure current with today’s codes and The construction process to build a new structure in the footprint of the original structure.
