Please join AIANY Interiors Committee for a tour of St. Patrick’s Cathedral led by Jeffrey Murphy, FAIA, MBB Architects, and Ron Pennella, StructureTone Inc., and the NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering. The tour will lead participants through the fascinating technical challenges of restoring a historic architectural icon visited by over five million people annually. This restoration project has been widely recognized with an impressive array of awards including a 2016 AIA National Honor Award, 2016 AIANY Merit Award, 2016 Lucy G. Moses Award from the New York Landmarks Conservancy, 2016 MASterworks Award from the Municipal Arts Society of New York, 2016 Architizer A+ Awards Special Mention, and 2014 Copper Development Association’s North American Copper in Architecture Award.

Jeffrey Murphy, FAIA is a Founding Partner of Murphy Burnham & Buttrick Architects in New York City. Murphy’s special expertise in design for cultural, civic, and educational institutions has led to a range of rich and compelling projects, many of which have been recognized for their design excellence and social engagement. A LEED-accredited professional, Murphy believes sustainability is an integral component of architecture and leads the firm in seeking design solutions that embody both conceptual clarity and environmental responsibility. As partner-in-charge, his team’s work at St. Patrick’s Cathedral won a 2016 AIA National Honor Award.

Ron Pennella offers 35 years of construction management experience. He has served as project manager for the historic restoration of St. Patrick’s Cathedral and is currently the project manager for the Alvin Ailey Dance Foundation renovation and expansion project. Pennella received an MS Degree in Management from Polytechnic University and is also an Adjunct Professor for the Department of Civil Engineering at Polytechnic University. He is a certified NYC Department of Buildings Site Safety Manager.
